College Trip to Georgia

On August 5-8th the College Ministry will be taking a trip to Georgia. Discussion will emphasize next year’s studies and what direction we will be heading in as a College Ministry. We will be going to Six Flags and tubing down a river! Please contact Casey Combest if you would like to go, or if you would like more information.

Fitness Camp

Join us July 12-16 for Shapin’ Up, our health and fitness camp for kids who have completed 1st – 6th grade. We will be focusing on healthy habits and attitudes for kids regarding their bodies, food, and exercise. Kids will learn to be aware of how they spend their free time and what they are putting into their bodies. They will be given challenges to help focus on healthy habits. They will also learn simple, healthy exercises and stretches they can do daily.

The camp will meet from 9-12 Monday-Friday in the FUMC gym. Kids will start the morning with some fun activities, then do some learning about health and exercise. A water and snack break is included, then they will enjoy a short Bible message and a health challenge. The morning will wrap up with some games and movement.

The Baptist Healthplex is joining with us to make this a safe and healthy learning experience for our kids. We hope your child will join us for this week of fun and fitness.

Shaw Scholarship

The scholarship fund was established June 5, 1988 in memory of Suzanne Elaine Shaw. The fund’s purpose is the income from the fund is used by First United Methodist Church, Clinton (beginning 2010) for students pursuing degrees in the medical profession or full time Christian vocations. One communion offering each year is added to the principal of the fund. Only the interest is used for funding each year’s awards. Epworth United Methodist Church awarded the scholarship for 1988 to 2009 then the responsibility was transferred to First United Methodist Church of Clinton.

To apply for this scholarship, click on the link below to download and print the application from your computer. Then fill out the application and bring it or mail it to the church office.

This year, as of 5-26-2010, there is $183.81 available for this scholarship. It could go up after 7-1-2010. May we give God thanks for and remember Suzanne Elaine Shaw in whose memory we give.

Canoe Trip

Saturday, July 31st

Everyone is welcome to join us and enjoy fun and fellowship as we canoe down the Strong River. Cost for Complete Canoe Outfitting and Shuttle will be $25.25 (plus tax) PER TWO PEOPLE. Extra charges apply for additional riders. Children under four are not permitted and all children will be the responsibility of their parents or guardians. We will leave the church about 8 am and will be on the river approximately four hours. Plan on packing your own lunch so we can stop and eat somewhere along the river. To reserve your canoe, please call the church office before July 1st.

Summer Movies

The Children’s ministry will be going to the movies during the week this summer. Children must have completed 1st
grade or be accompanied by an adult. We will leave the church at 8:30 a.m.. Please meet in the parking lot by the Family Life Building.

Cost $2 for movie – extra cost for snacks if desired.

June 29 – Planet 51(PG) – at Tinseltown

4th of July Celebration

FUMC is joining the annual Fourth of July Celebration, hosted by the City of Clinton at Traceway Park, held on July 3rd this year. The FUMC Young Adults will have a tent and tables set up for this event. We will be handing out water and slices of watermelon while supplies last. Gates open at 5:30 pm that day. There is a $5.00 parking fee per car. There will be family events and food vendors and live music. There is supposed to be a bull ride for the older people. Fireworks by the city will be at dark. Everyone is welcome to come and join us. You may want to bring your own chair or blanket. Anyone that can donate bottled water for the event or money for the watermelons would be appreciated.
