Journey of Stones

Join us this Lenten season for the Journey of Stones sermon series, starting March 13th in the traditional services, and continuing through Easter.

Drawing on the rich imagery of rocks and stones in scripture, this series of messages will center around the compelling metaphor of stones (and our willingness to throw them) as representative of our sins. As we enter the sanctuary you will be invited to pick up stones as a concrete symbol of each sermon’s theme; then as the message concludes the stones will placed at the foot of the cross. As we move toward Easter we will see what happens to the stones on Easter Sunday. We will begin the series with our first message on Ash Wednesday, continue for the five weeks of Lent, and conclude with services on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday.  Throughout this series we will be taken on a journey of prayerful and honest repentance — a powerful and life-changing journey of celebration, of grace, of awe at the miracle of the empty tomb and the promise of life.  Each sermon and every story well–grounded in the living Word of God.  You are invited to join us at First UMC for the JOURNEY!

Acolyte Training

There will be an Acolyte training meeting on Sunday, February 13th from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. You will be dismissed at 5:00 if you are in the choir. We will order pizza for supper. This is for all 3rd-8th graders who want to be an Acolyte and for those already serving as Acolytes.

Special Speakers

Our worldview is the map we use to navigate our way through life, helping us create meaning and value. In today’s society, we encounter many different worldviews every day. Come and learn about the worldview of Islam led by Jonathan and Laura Wilbur who have spent the last nine years living with Muslims. We’ll explore the basics of the Islamic faith, talk about similarities and differences, discuss ways to build bridges of understanding with our Muslim friends, as well as leave time for questions.

Don’t miss this opportunity!

Worship with us during Epiphany

I Put My Trust

Over the next three weeks we will be reflecting upon the gifts we have either received or the new gifts that have been revealed through our Spirit Gifts study and we will be asking you to complete the following sentence, “I put my trust…” Where do you put your trust?  If you have been entrusted with the gifts of God, how are you using them to His glory?  Who really is in charge of your life?
