A story is told of a great Oxford scholar and Bible student of England, Dr. Benjamin Jowett. One day at dinner a woman hoping to draw some clever response from him asked, “Dr. Jowett, we would like to know what is your opinion of God.” His face became stern and serious, and he replied: “Madam, I should think it a great impertinence were I to express my opinion about God. The only constant anxiety of my life is to know what is God’s opinion of me.”

In the Old Testament, Job felt his need of that. He was conscious of his own innocence, but he could not prove it in the human courts. His friends had already tried him and found him guilty, but somewhere deep in his soul Job knew that there was one who would be perfect and totally impartial in his judgments. How wonderful it would have been had Job know the rest of the story – how that one day God’s son, Jesus, would come and so completely identify with us that he could be forever our advocate in heaven.

As you tell your life story about your relationship with Jesus Christ I know there are those who have already judged you in some earthly way. May we constantly be aware that the grace of God is sufficient for us that no matter how others receive us, God has given his Son already to receive us as his!!! Praise be to God!

Join us July 12-16 for Shapin’ Up, our health and fitness camp for kids who have completed 1st – 6th grade. We will be focusing on healthy habits and attitudes for kids regarding their bodies, food, and exercise. Kids will learn to be aware of how they spend their free time and what they are putting into their bodies. They will be given challenges to help focus on healthy habits. They will also learn simple, healthy exercises and stretches they can do daily.

The camp will meet from 9-12 Monday-Friday in the FUMC gym. Kids will start the morning with some fun activities, then do some learning about health and exercise. A water and snack break is included, then they will enjoy a short Bible message and a health challenge. The morning will wrap up with some games and movement.

The Baptist Healthplex is joining with us to make this a safe and healthy learning experience for our kids. We hope your child will join us for this week of fun and fitness.

To register, click the link below or fill out a form and bring it to the church office. Forms are located outside the sanctuary doors and in the office. Call Renee for more information.

A few weeks ago, as I was thinking about all the young people graduating from high school and college, I found a book in my office at home entitled Life’s Little Instruction Book by H. Jackson Brown, Jr. This book has 511 suggestions, observations, and reminders on how to live a happy and rewarding life. Let me share of few of these with you:

•	Compliment three people every day

•	Watch a sunrise at least once a year

•	Watch the movie It’s a Wonderful Life every Christmas

•	Drink eight glasses of water every day

•	Take charge of your attitude. Don’t let someone else choose it for you

•	Take care of your reputation. It’s your most valuable asset

•	Don’t be called out on strikes. Go down swinging

•	Watch for big problems. They disguise big opportunities

•	Cherish your children for what they are, not for what you’d like them to be

•	Never underestimate the power of a kind word or deed

These are just 10 of the 511 that I really like. I have to admit however, there’s one suggestion, observation and reminder that I would want to share with everyone that I cannot find in the 511 list in Mr. Brown’s book (it might be there, but I have not found it).

•	“Remember the Sabbath day!”

I fear somehow we have allowed, in our so-called “Christian” nation, society and social opportunities to overtake our priorities. I read somewhere last week that only 17% of our nation will attend worship on a given Sunday (much less on ‘holiday’ weekends).

Where will you and your family be this Sabbath day?

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” Exodus 20:8
