One of the general rules of tent camping is to “never the tent of another camper uninvited!” Yet, the Psalmist of the reading for this Sunday asks us this question; “O Lord, who may abide in your tent?”
In general most of us realize that the world we live in has rules. We tend to live within the rules unless there are circumstances that would cause us to move beyond the rules. In the Lord’s tent rules weren’t specific requirements. No one was at the temple door with a checklist examining each person who sought entry to certify that he or she had kept each of these “rules.” Rather, the “rules” were a snapshot of what holy living looks like. Thus, the answers to the opening question of this psalm forms a character sketch of people whose lives have been shaped by conformity to God’s own character. Holiness is a way of life.
